When you first get a VUZIX headset it will look a bit different to most devices. A VUZIX headset is essentially an Android mobile phone which you can mount on your head like glasses. It shows a small display in front of your eye. You will have to direct focus to this small display to properly see it else it will blend out of your vision. Alongside this it has a camera on the front for video calls and showing/demonstrating what you are doing. What follows is a basic introduction to putting the device together and the basics of how to interact with it.
When you first receive a headset it will be boxed like so
It should contain the headset, a battery pack, glasses and two cables (1 USB C and 1 USB Mini)
You will need to assemble the device. The headset and battery connect to the glasses through a sliding mechanism.
Once connected your headset should look like this. You can put the glasses device on either side of the glasses, for the sake of this demonstration they have been placed on the right eye side.
From here you will need to plug the USB C cable into the glasses, with the bigger end going intot he glasses like so. You will also need to press the button on the battery pack to turn it on, it should glow green. If it glows red or orange it requires charging.
When it comes to charging the battery pack you need to plug the MINI USB cable into the battery pack and the other end into the charger provided.
To dismantle the device follow the relevant steps in reverse.
When it comes to controlling the device, it has 4 buttons and a touch panel. The attached images will give you the basics of how these buttons are used
If you want to give these control a test you can open the "Quick Start" application on the device as seen in an image above.
Your headset will be come with a 3 apps pre installed which you will be able to use. All other apps on the device are not required and are in some cases blocked.
- Help Lightning
- Zoom
- Teams
Help Lightning
This is the most commonly used application for these devices. You will need an account on this app and you will then be able to call any headset device which is connected to the internet.
Zoom
The zoom application is a paid for app which costs $100 a year. To enable this feature you will have to contact the Helpdesk. You can find more information about using this (Once the app is enabled) on the support article site.
Teams
The teams application is not designed for these headsets however is here as it is sometimes needed by specific individuals. You can find more information about using this on the support article site. Given its technical issues it may require you to contact the Helpdesk.
Now that you have your device and a basic rundown of how to interact with it and what is on it you will need to apply what you know and use the device. To turn the device on press the power button, this is the only button located on the side of the device and is circular. Once turned on you will see the home menu, you can navigate this by scrolling right and left on the touch panel. Once you have navigated to an ap that you wish to open, you can just tap the touchscreen and the app should open. This is the basic use of the device. You can find app specific guides on the helpdesk page.
