Overview

The Mimecast Large File Send feature allows you to securely send files that are too large for standard email attachments. Instead of attaching the file directly, the file is uploaded securely and the recipient receives a link to download it.

When to Use Large File Send

Use this feature when:

• Your attachment exceeds Outlook’s size limit (20MB)

• You are sending large documents, videos, or multiple files

• You need to securely share files with external recipients

How to Send Large Files in Outlook

1. Open a New Email

   • In Outlook, click New Email.

2. Attach Your File

   • Click Attach File and select the file you want to send.

   • If the file is large, Mimecast will automatically prompt you to use Large File Send, or you can manually select it.

3. Use Mimecast Large File Send

   • Click the Mimecast tab in Outlook.

   • Select “Send Large File” (wording may vary slightly).

4. Upload the File

   • The file will be uploaded securely to Mimecast.

   • Wait for the upload to complete.

5. Send the Email

   • Once uploaded, your email will include a secure download link instead of the attachment.

   • Click Send.

What the Recipient Sees

• The recipient will receive your email with a secure download link.

• The recipient will receive a code.

• They can click the link to enter the code and download the file.

Important Notes

• File Expiration: Download links may expire after a set period.

• File Size Limits: Larger files are supported than standard attachments, but a 2GB limit will apply.

• Security: Files are encrypted and securely stored by Mimecast.

• External Sharing: You can safely send large files to external recipients.
